General Information

What are the Workplace Awards Canada? The Workplace Awards Canada celebrate excellence across three distinct streams: HR News Canada Awards (8 categories), HR Law Canada Awards (8 categories), and Safety News Canada Awards (9 categories). These prestigious awards recognize individuals and organizations making exceptional contributions to Canadian workplaces.

Who can nominate? Anyone can submit a nomination – colleagues, clients, peers, industry partners, or self-nominations are all welcome.

Can I nominate myself or my own organization? Yes, self-nominations are encouraged and accepted in all categories.

Is there a nomination fee? No, there is no fee to submit a nomination.

How many nominations can I submit? You may submit multiple nominations across different categories.

Eligibility

Who is eligible to be nominated? Nominees must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Organizations based in Canada, OR
  • Work being nominated was performed by Canadian workers

What time period should the nominated work cover? The work, achievements, or initiatives being nominated should have occurred within the last 12 months.

Can I nominate someone from a previous year if they didn’t win? Yes, you may re-nominate individuals or organizations from previous years, but the nomination should focus on work completed in the last 12 months.

Are there any restrictions on organization size? No, organizations of all sizes are eligible across all categories.

Nomination Process

What information do I need to submit a nomination? You’ll need:

  • Nominee’s name, title, and organization
  • Contact information for the nominee
  • Detailed explanation of why they deserve the award (up to 500 words)
  • Supporting documentation (optional but encouraged)

When is the nomination deadline? Nominations close on May 30, 2026.

Can I edit my nomination after submitting? Please contact [email protected] if you need to update a submitted nomination.

Will nominees be notified that they’ve been nominated? Nominees are not automatically notified. We recommend informing your nominee before submitting.

What types of supporting documents should I include? Helpful supporting materials include case studies, testimonials, metrics demonstrating impact, program descriptions, media coverage, or other relevant documentation. Accepted formats: PDF, DOC, DOCX (max 10MB).

Judging & Selection

Who judges the awards? An independent panel of industry experts, thought leaders, and professionals from across Canada evaluate all nominations. We are currently seeking qualified judges to join our panel.

How can I become a judge? If you’re interested in serving on the judging panel, please contact [email protected]. The deadline to apply as a judge is May 30, 2026.

What criteria do judges use? Judges evaluate nominations based on:

  • Excellence and innovation in their field
  • Measurable impact and results
  • Leadership and influence
  • Contribution to advancing workplace practices in Canada

How are winners selected? Judges review all nominations independently and score them based on established criteria. Top-scoring nominees in each category are selected as winners.

Will finalists be announced before the winners? Details about finalist announcements will be communicated closer to the awards date.

Awards Ceremony & Recognition

When and where will winners be announced? Winners will be announced at a live cocktail reception and gala dinner in October 2026 in Toronto. Specific date and venue details will be announced to nominees.

Do winners need to attend the gala to receive their award? While attendance is strongly encouraged to celebrate this achievement, awards can be accepted on behalf of winners who cannot attend.

What recognition do winners receive? Winners receive:

  • A physical trophy
  • Profile feature in the relevant publication (HR News Canada, HR Law Canada, or Safety News Canada)
  • Recognition at the awards gala
  • Digital badge for use on websites and social media
  • Press release announcing their win

How much are gala tickets? Ticket pricing will be announced closer to the event date. Winners will receive information about ticket options and table packages.

Will the event be held in person only? The gala is planned as an in-person event in Toronto. Details about any virtual components will be shared closer to the event date.

After Nomination

When will I hear back about my nomination? All nominators will receive confirmation that their submission was received. Updates on the selection process and timeline will be communicated via email.

Can I get feedback on why a nomination wasn’t selected? Due to the volume of nominations, individual feedback is not available. However, we encourage you to nominate again in future years.

Will my nomination information be kept confidential? Nomination details are shared only with our judging panel and awards administration team. Winner information will be made public.

Sponsorship & Partnership

How can my organization sponsor the Workplace Awards Canada? We offer Platinum ($15,000), Gold ($8,500), and Silver ($4,500) sponsorship packages, plus à la carte options. Contact [email protected] for our sponsorship package details.

Can we sponsor a specific award category? Yes, award category naming rights are available as part of our sponsorship packages or as an à la carte option.
